Dell wants to “capture” the market of MacBook Air

Dell has introduced its Adamo laptop that, apparently, is the thinnest laptop in the world, which is targeted to compete in the high-end computer industry, where the Apple MacBook Air is already positioned. Adamo is made completely of aluminum and has a thickness of 0.65 inches (1.65 centimeters). Also, it has a 13.4-inch screen and a 130 GB hard drive.

Dell will sell it for a price of 1,999 dollars (approximately 1,600 euros), what makes this computer one of the most expensive laptops of the company. This move has attracted the attention of some analysts who think now it is not a good time to launch high-priced devices. One argument cited in support of them is the sales drop hitting the Apple products in USA.

Anyway, Adamo is clearly a strategic product for the company. Dell has not many “friends” in the distribution market segment within the supply chain because the company decided to sell its products directly through Internet, by phone or by catalog. For this reason, Dell needs to attract customers by launching innovative and interesting proposals. With Adamo “we intend to make a design, style, fashion, premium craftsmanship statement”, according to John New, senior manager of Dell’s global product marketing.

Adamo weighs 4 pounds (1.8 kilograms). So it is heavier than the Apple MacBook Air, which weighs approximately 2.9 pounds (1.3 kilograms) and is offered at a price ranging from $1,799 to $2,499.

Samsung's Tocco

Samsung's Tocco is yet another handset with a full frontal touchscreen. I am immediately reminded of the F490, the F700, LG's KF600, and of course the iPhone in both its original and 3G flavours.

Well, here we go again with the Samsung Tocco, which is available from all the major network operators from free depending on your contract choice. My review sample came from Orange.

This time around, just to help differentiate the Tocco from the crowd, Samsung has come up with what it calls a unique user interface that lets you personalise how you use the phone. I'll get to that in a moment. But first let's talk design.

This is a mobile phone that shouldn't trouble most pockets. At 98.4mm tall, 55mm wide and 11.6mm thick it is on the small side. It is a pity that Samsung couldn't break 100g, but its 106g weight is really no hardship to carry around. It is extremely comfortable to hold the phone in one hand and tap at the screen with the thumb.

Just to add a little something extra to proceedings, the phone comes with a second battery cover that has a screen protector attached to it. Once fitted, the screen protector flips up from the bottom of the handset, shielding the screen from scratches without adding the significant extra bulk of a case.

The front fascia of the phone is shiny black apart from the screen, and there's a flash of silver surrounding the speaker, and another that forms a strip beneath the screen. That strip offers three buttons: Call and End, with End doubling as the on/off switch, and a longer lozenge which drops you into the shortcut menu. There is a selection of five applications on the shortcut menu: Music Player, Messages, Internet, Call and main menu.

Around the edges are a rocker for volume control; a hold button that disables the touchscreen; a camera key; and a jack for Samsung's extremely annoying proprietary multifunction socket that charges the phone, accommodates the provided stereo headset and connects the Tocco to a PC via USB.

The front screen measures 2.8 inches diagonally, putting it on a par with the screens of the more portable Windows Mobile devices. It delivers 320 x 240 pixels and 262 thousand colours. I found it clear and sharp to read and easy to use.

LG Arena KM900.......... anyone...?

The new LG KM900 is a wonder of a phone. It received 1 million pre-orders before it was released. Although it is a bit small for some, and may not have as wide a range of software as one may hope, the s-class interface, the dolby mobile sound, 3.5mm headphone jack, and build quality quickly make up for this. This handset promises to void gaps that are created by the handsets available now.

At its unveiling at the Mobile World Congress the LG KM900 was hailed as one of the top ten debuts there. It is considered to be a huge competitor for the iphone. To start with you have to admire the build quality of the thing. It's 105.9mm x 55.3 x 12mm frame hosts an impressive 3 inch 480x800 pixel WVGA screen. It has a brushed metal front and soft curved corners and tempered glass screen. It is only 105 grams and will not be a lump in your pocket.

This compact size has a price. For some it does not have a big enough screen to view internet and movies and such. The S-Class interface is the pinnical selling point of this phone. It is very iphone and the screen acting around a cube is a great touch. The icons in the main menu are better organized than rivals and are very well organized. The icons can be scrolled horizontally and therefore the small screen does not take away from the experience. All media scrolls around like a rolodex. This is also true of your contacts and pictures too. I love the way this looks and it is very intriguing. It is definitely as good if not better than the iphone's coverflow view.

The 3.5 mm jack is great for users like me who love taking their music on the road. I hate other phones where you have to carry around a separate attachment for the headphone jack. This small addition is greatly appreciated. Another great thing is the inclusion of the FM transmitter so that you can take your tunes on the road and play them while you drive. I love jamming out to my tunes in the car without having to carry around cds all over the place.

There is dolby mobile sound that you will get to enjoy that will bring virtual surround sound to your ears through the headphones. It is a gloriously wonderful feature if you plan on watching movies or sit and listen to tunes. The DivX capabilities are another thing that people will appreciate if they are into watching movies and such on their phone. You get 8GB of storage for such things. The phone features HSDPA, AGPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. There is also a nice 5-megapixel camera for shooting pleasure.

ASUS Eee PC 1000HE is probably the best Eee PC on the market

It seems that ASUS has at least one model of the Eee PC, which can be a real competitor to the best in 2009 Netbook price. The company has recently released the Eee PC 1000HE, a 10-inch Netbook designed to benefit from the latest Netbook-focused Atom processor, the N280. Apparently, this model is true that the computer is really the seller's confidence, which he managed to land among the three most desired gadgets Amazon.com, with pre-orders to increase every day. Fortunately, some users will soon be able to get their hands on the new Eee PC model, as some dealers have already listed as the product is in stock.

Apparently, one of the biggest attractions in the new Eee PC Netbook 1000HE is to offer their users with not less than 9.5 hours of battery life, according to ASUS. But if you are not sure of the manufacturer, you should check the reviews out there, most of which are to praise Eee PC, as one of the best netbooks on the market today. In addition to the impressive battery life, there is another aspect that makes Eee PC is different from the crowd, which is relatively low price, under $ 400.

In essence, Eee PC 1000HE, which was built on the latest Intel processor N280, ASUS managed to ante its Eee PC line, after having issued a large number of Netbook models. It is too early to say whether this will be the Netbook this year, but how it is, ASUS could see an impressive market.

As a reminder, the Eee PC 1000HE has a 10-inch WSVGA LED backlit screen, 1GB of DDR2 memory, 160GB HDD, 802.11 b / g / n wireless, 1.3MP webcam, high definition codec, stereo speakers and a weight of 1.45kg.
